God Uses Imperfect People

Oct 25, 2026  •  Pastor Michelle Girgus

There is a lie that many believers carry quietly, tucked away in the back of their minds, whispering just loud enough to keep them still. The lie sounds reasonable. It sounds even humble. It says: God could use you, if only you were a little better.

Pastor Michelle Girgus asks the question; What if the very things we think disqualify us are actually the things God wants to use most? Drawing from the lives of Moses, David, Peter, and Paul, we are walked through a gallery of deeply flawed, broken, and sometimes outright rebellious people whom God chose anyway. Moses pleaded inadequacy. David committed catastrophic moral failures. Peter denied the one he loved most, not once but three times. Paul actively worked to destroy the early church. And yet, each of them became a cornerstone of God's redemptive story. The throughline is not talent, education, or moral perfection. It is surrender. The message challenges us to examine the excuses we have quietly rehearsed, the reasons we have told ourselves that God could never use someone like us, and to recognize them for what they are: lies. First Corinthians 1:27 sets the theological foundation, reminding us that God deliberately chooses what the world considers weak and foolish to accomplish his greatest work. This is not an accident of divine strategy. It is the point. When we are emptied of self-sufficiency, we become vessels through which God's strength is most clearly seen.
