Joy Comes in the Morning

Aug 30, 2026    Pastor Tom Girgus

What does it really mean to have joy when life is falling apart around us? Pastor Tom Girgus' message draws a powerful distinction between happiness and joy that cuts right to the heart of our everyday experience. Happiness, as we all know, is fragile. It rises and falls with our circumstances. But joy is something altogether different. It is rooted not in what is happening around us but in who is living within us. Drawing from Psalm 30:5, we are reminded that weeping may stay for the night, but joy comes in the morning. That promise does not mean we will be spared from hard seasons. It means that no hard season gets the final word. God does. Through the story of Paul and Silas singing in a prison cell at midnight, shackled and beaten yet filled with praise, we see one of the most striking pictures in all of Scripture of joy that refuses to be imprisoned by circumstances. Their worship did not just change their own situation. It opened doors for others and led an entire family to salvation. That is the contagious, transformative power of genuine joy. When we choose to anchor our joy in the presence of God rather than the conditions of our lives, we become a force that can shift the atmosphere around us.
